Me, Myself and PS2

Every gamer has a definitive system molded them into the junkie they are today. I started my gaming career with the Nintendo Entertainment System shooting down ducks when I was just a wee lad. I would occasionally get to explore the world of 16 bit on Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis when I would go to daycare (I was born in 1992) and my buddies house. I later upgraded to the Nintendo 64 with the most memorable Christmas present of all time. But none of these quite cemented in my mind that I would be a gamer for life. Don’t get me wrong I will never forget the time spent on those consoles, four player Mario Kart and Golden Eye. But I was too young, I couldn’t grasp the depth and detail that was presented in front of me. I would just button mash my way through titles. I don’t think I completed a single one without my older brothers help. I was like a fifth grader with a crush, I had no idea what was going on. It wasn’t until the Playstaion 2 that I felt real love, that baby was crisp. Duel analog sticks, mind blowing graphics (at the time), a gigantic library of games, it could play movies and music, oh yeah the PS2 was my first sweet heart. I demolished hours playing everything I could get my hands on. I would collect cans so I could afford rentals at Blockbuster, that console probably saw me more than my teachers did at school.

When I think back on the time spent with that beauty it still holsters some of my most treasured video game titles. Sly Cooper, Ratchet and Clank, Shadow of the Colossus just to name a few. Recently Sony announced that God Of War III will be Remastered on Playstaion 4 this summer. I watched the teaser trailer for the upcoming release and it gave me goose bumps. It brought me back to my 12 year old self slashing through waves of mythological Greek monstrosities, unveiling the most epic tale my pre-teen mind had ever experienced. I loved that game and it might have been the first I ever played to 100% completion. Kratos, A man tormented by a haunting past, with a thirst for revenge so great he’s able to climb out of hell it’s self! This story was epic and it would follow up with a sequel that had an amazing cliffhanger ending that still stains my brain. Which brings me to my greatest video game mistake of all time.

When it came time to jump to the next gen systems, I left Sony behind. All my friends where getting Xbox 306, it had great online, new games and was waaaaaaay cheaper. I couldn’t resist, I cheated on my first love and upgraded with the other team. When I think about it I don’t regret it, I had the opportunity to play Gears of War, and Halo 3 still ranks as my favorite first person shooter. However I never got my conclusion, I still haven’t found out what happened when Kratos climbed his way to the top of Mount Olympus. I’m sitting on 5 years of God of War blue balls. Now I’m currently the proud owner of a Playstaion 4 and I’m going to invest in a Playstaion 3 to play through the titles I’ve missed. But when it comes to God Of War, I’m going to wait. Now that Sony has revealed that God of War will be coming to PS4 I think I owe it to myself to get my climatic finish in 1080p. After all this time I’m finally going to get closure to one of my favorite game series, I hope it doesn’t suck.
