Money in the Pot: Colorado’s Made Too Much Money

by February 2, 2015 0 comments

A year after Colorado’s full legalization of marijuana, medical and recreational, the state has found that it’s made so much money that it may now have to give some back to its citizens. The $50-million in tax dollars made was supposed to go to schools and other state-run institutions. But according to state law, there’s only so much money the state can take before having to give some back.

So, you can have your cake and eat it too? You can have your pot and money too? I don’t know, I had a long weekend.

Weed has such a great ability to create bonding relationships amongst people that now Democrats and Republicans are finally in agreement about a tax issue. Even civilians are surprised by the tax, some state that they don’t mind the money going to help facilities like schools. It’s so confusing that now state officials are trying to prevent having to dole out the money that they otherwise would have still benefitted Colorado’s citizens.

There’s little time left to make the decision, as final tax reports are due in March. “This is what the voters want, and if we’re going to have (pot), and the constitution says it’s legal, we damn well better tax it,” was one sentiment. However, others feel that maybe the solution is to further lower taxes on marijuana. That would aid in avoiding the current conflict as to what to do with all the money.

I say shit or get off the pot. Okay, I’m done.
