Don’t Get Busted By This New Device

by January 16, 2015 0 comments

You don’t have to concern yourself just yet, but the new Drugwipe system is now available to police officials in the UK. The new device takes a drop of a suspect’s saliva and reads whether the individual has imbibed marijuana or cocaine. If the suspect shows positive, lines appear on the device within 8 minutes. Drugwipe works similarly to a pregnancy test, but nobody wants to watch an adult person pee on a stick on the side of the road. So, saliva it is.

The device is assumed to help prevent drug driving deaths. British police officer, Mike Penning says, “Those who get behind the wheel while under the influence of drugs not only put their own lives at risk, but also those of innocent pedestrians, motorists and their passengers.”

While that may be true, the unfortunate nature of the device is that it lumps marijuana into the same category as a much more dangerous drug. In a climate where marijuana use has become more acceptable, activists, spokespeople, and users of the plant, have made a large effort to differentiate marijuana from deadlier, more addictive, and toxic drugs.

On the other hand, the device is being used as an attempt to prevent the annual toll of 200 deaths from drivers under the influence of drugs. If the subject shows positive for drugs, they will be broughtinto a police station for subsequent blood testing. The device will be enforced in the UK, come March. The new punishment for driving under the influence is a 12-month license suspension, a£5,000 fine and a possible 6-months in prison or both.

The test will also include: ecstasy and ketamine, heroin, lysergic acid diethylamide, methylamphetamine and MDMA.

Those are some fucked up things to be driving on anyway.
