Discovery Channel: No More Fake Shit

Discovery Channel: No More Fake Shit

by January 9, 2015 0 comments

In October of 2014, The Discovery Channel hired a new boss. He’s such a boss that his name is Rich Ross (I had to), and he’s decided to cancel all that bullshit programming  Discovery has been trying to pass off as educational and documentarian. You know, shows about Mermaids, Megalodons, Bigfoot and those dudes who get eaten by snakes. All ersatz documentaries are now being dropped by the network. Ross believes that they are inappropriate for the network.

Rightfully so. An added plus is that the channel’s audience is usually so baked, they’ll watch almost anything. Hence the success of the aforementioned nonsense.

Ross wants to focus on educating viewers. He says that he’d like more programming that “impacts people” and makes them care in such way they act or react. His reactions to excited TV critics were highly pragmatic, making mention of the fact that the network’s decision isn’t based on Ross’s tastes, but on what is right for the network.  The exec stated that true stories can be just as, or even more, entertaining and exciting as the fake stuff.

Like boobs or Tofurky, I prefer real things.

Ross went on the mention that he feels that Discovery has too much of a “narrow…niche” following and that he wants the channel to be geared towards the whole family and not just the men.

Who doesn’t love a good documentary series about actual discoveries; I know this OG Kush does.
