Bush Weed: Rand Paul Calls Jeb Bush A Hypocrite for Smoking Weed

by February 2, 2015 0 comments

Presidential hopeful, Rand Paul, whose campaign includes a promise to end the war on drugs, has called out his opposition, Jeb Bush, for Bush’s hypocrisy. Brother of George W., Jeb Bush, has admitted to having smoked marijuana as a young man, at a prep school in the 60s and 70s. While, this past year, he opposed a voter initiative to legalize marijuana in the state of Florida.

Paul says of the hypocrisy, “You would think he’d have a little more understanding then…Had he been caught at Andover, he’d have never been governor, he’d probably never have a chance to run for the presidency.” From 1967-1971, Bush attended the elite Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts, where he admittedly smoked marijuana.

“I drank alcohol and I smoked marijuana when I was at Andover. It was pretty common,” said Bush.

Don’t forget, his big brother was accused of early cocaine use, during his presidency.

Fellow student Peter Tibbetts says, in an article from the Boston Globe, that the first time he ever got high was with the younger Bush brother. He said they even smoked some hash in Jeb Bush’s dorm. ‘The first time I really got stoned was in Jeb’s room,’ Tibbetts said. ‘He had a portable stereo with removable speakers. He put on Steppenwolf for me.’ He also claims to have bought some hash from Bush.

In his own defence, the presidential hopeful said, “I was 14 when I left Houston to go to Andover and it was a very cynical time. The school for all sorts of reasons in the early ’70s was cynical, not the same way it is now. It was a very Darwinian place.” He now says it was a foolish behavior to partake in.

Rand Paul thinks of this as a hypocritical and shameful sentiment:

Hypocrisy is, ‘Hey I did it and it’s OK for me because I was rich and at an elite school but if you’re poor and black or brown and live in a poor section of one of our big cities, we’re going to put you in jail and throw away the key… This is a guy who now admits he smoked marijuana but he wants to put people in jail who do. I think that’s the real hypocrisy, is that people on our side, which include a lot of people, who made mistakes growing up, admit their mistakes but now still want to put people in jail for that.

Not bad. I can’t disagree. Though, I do have to say Steppenwolf is a decent music selection, and Bush shouldn’t be in any way ashamed of his taste in classic rock.
