94 Problems and They’re All iPhones

by January 14, 2015 0 comments

A man was arrested in Hong Kong, China, after he unsuccessfully attempted to smuggle 94 iPhones into the country by strapping them to his body and legs. The man’s collection ranged from iPhone 6s to the older 5/5S models. It was noted that the man had been walking stiffly and awkwardly.

He was pretty much a cyborg at that point, I think.

It was only until recently that iPhones were unavailable in China. The only way to purchase them, was through the grey market. Now China has them available through official vendors. Though, one can still make a lot of money buying iPhones abroad and bringing them into the country for sale. This is not the first time Chinese authorities have intercepted a large number of iPhones. Last year authorities prevented a shipment of 67 iPhones in one incident, and 286 in another. Now that the iPhone 6 is available in China, there has been an increase in illegal exporting as well, over 800 undeclared phones have been reported in the last year.

While all of this may seem funny or strange to us, it wouldn’t be for the perpetrator because the maximum fine for smuggling undeclared items into China is $2-Million and seven years in prison.

And no Angry Birds.
